Internet Speed Test

A speed test is a way to get an accurate measurement of your internet connection speed. For the most accurate results, test your speed with a device that is directly connected to your modem via an Ethernet cable. Keep in mind that Wi-fi connections may not actualize your speeds the way a direct-wired connection would.

Internet Speed Disclaimer

Actual Internet speeds may vary and are not guaranteed. Devices on Wi-Fi only, tend to have reduced performance. Westman Communications Group (WCG) makes no guarantees about Wi-Fi speeds and service coverage delivered with a WCG provided modem, or a customer purchased modem. Wi-Fi performance may be affected by many factors including your proximity from modem to the device, the number of other users/devices connected, where the modem is located, radio frequency interference, the capabilities or age of your laptop, tablet or other Wi-Fi capable device, and the applications you use.

WCG’s service is designed to provide customers with the highest speed available from the network at any given point in time, subject to the many different factors discussed above that can affect network performance. WCG advertises its speeds as "up to" a specific level based on the Internet plan to which a customer subscribes. The speeds advertised are based on the speed you get with a device wired directly to the router using an Ethernet cable.

THE INTERNET BASICS

Megabits per second (Mbps) is a unit of measurement for bandwidth. Meaning it describes the speed of an Internet connection. The more Mbps you have, the faster your internet.

Download (Mbps)

Download speed means the receiving time. Which is the rate that data is received from the internet to your computer. Like downloading a video from email.

Ping (ms)

The term Ping is the reaction time of your connection, or how fast you get a response after you've sent out a request. Such as the connection from your computer to a website. Ping is normally expressed in milliseconds (ms).

Upload (Mbps)

Upload speed is sending time. The rate that data is transferred from your computer to the Internet. Like posting a picture to social media.
