The vision of the United Way of Brandon & District is to build community, change lives and work together to make a difference. This vision is not just a tagline but a mandate within which they operate — it is a demonstration of their commitment to helping those in need within our community.
It is their promise that 100% of your donor dollars are put right back to work in our community to help combat the root causes of the issues we face and to create a powerful, lasting change for all of us.
We support the over 30 programs that the United Way runs, whether it's by company donation, staff donation, staff volunteering their time, BBQ's, etc.
YWCA Westman Women’s Shelter offers safe, emergency accommodation to women and their children who are fleeing family violence. The Shelter is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Shelter can accommodate up to 24 women and children and has a common dining room, large children’s playroom, living room and laundry facilities. Trained counsellors offer information, make appropriate referrals to community agencies that include assistance with legal issues, locating housing and offering daily counselling sessions to both women and children. The Shelter also offers individual and group counselling to women and children, follow-up support, children’s programs, public education and a 24-hour crisis line for people who experience abuse in the community.
We are proud to support the valuable work that the YWCA does. We are the title sponsor of the Women of Distinction Awards Gala, which gives deserving awards to women across Westman for their contributions to their communities. We also support Walk a Mile In Her Shoes along with many other initiatives that the YWCA does.
The Keystone Centre sits on approximately 90 acres in Brandon’s busiest commercial district and offers 540,000 square feet of multi-use all under one roof. As a significant contributor to the quality of life in Westman, the Keystone Centre plays an important role in the area of social and economic impact. Boasting over 1,500 event days annually, the Keystone Centre hosts a diverse array of activities providing a large component of the social, recreational, cultural and agricultural fabric of the area, and is one of Brandon’s largest economic catalysts.
It's important to us to keep people connected. We wanted to give people the ability to share memories while enjoying events within the Keystone Centre, free of charge! That's why we have partnered with the Keystone Centre to put FREE Wi-Fi throughout the centre for everyone to enjoy!
